Alright, so listen up, y’all. My boy’s got this here motorcycle, a duel sport thingamajig, you know, one of them that can go on the road and in the dirt. Now, the blinkers, them fancy LED flashers, they work just fine, blinkin’ away like fireflies. But the brake light, that there red light in the back? It ain’t doin’ nothin’. Zip, zilch, nada.

First thing we did, we checked the bulbs. Yeah, the little glass things. Took ’em out, looked at ’em real close. They ain’t burnt out, nope. Looked brand new, shiny and all. So, it ain’t the bulbs, that’s for sure.
Then we started pokin’ around with the wires. Now, I ain’t no fancy electrician, but I know a thing or two about wires. If they’re loose or broken, things ain’t gonna work right. We jiggled ’em, tugged on ’em a bit, made sure they was all connected tight. Still nothin’. The wires seemed okay, nothin’ loose or broken that we could see.
My boy, he went and got himself one of them testers, a little thing with a light that tells you if there’s power. He poked around with that, and he said there’s power goin’ to the blinkers, but not to the brake light. That’s gotta mean somethin’, right?
- Checked the bulbs: They’re good.
- Checked the wires: They seem fine.
- Checked the power: Power to blinkers, but not the brake light.
Now, someone told us somethin’ about a fuse. Said maybe the fuse for the brake light is blown. We looked in that little box with all them fuses, but Lord have mercy, there’s so many of them little things, lookin’ all the same. We don’t even know which one is for the brake light. Gotta find that manual, the little book that came with the bike, see if it tells us which fuse to check.
And then there’s this other thing, this “relay” thingamajig. Someone said that if the relay is bad, the brake light might not work. Now, I ain’t got the foggiest idea what a relay is or what it looks like, but my boy, he’s readin’ up on it on that internet thing. Says it’s like a little switch or somethin’. Maybe that’s the problem, who knows?
It’s just plain confusin’. Why the blinkers work but the brake light don’t is beyond me. They both supposed to be lights, right? You’d think they’d work the same way. But I guess these newfangled motorcycles, they’re just too complicated for an old woman like me to understand. This LED stuff, it’s all new to me, back in my day, lights were just lights, bulbs and wires, nothin’ fancy.
We’ll keep fiddlin’ with it, I guess. Maybe we’ll take it to a shop, let someone who knows what they’re doin’ take a look. But that costs money, and money ain’t growin’ on trees, you know. So, we’ll try a few more things ourselves first. Maybe check that fuse, figure out what that relay thing is. And if we still can’t fix it, well, then we’ll have to bite the bullet and pay someone else to do it. Just hope it don’t cost a fortune.
It’s a real pain in the neck, though. A motorcycle without a brake light, that ain’t safe. You need that brake light to let folks know you’re stoppin’. Otherwise, someone might rear-end ya, and that ain’t good. So, we gotta get this fixed, and fast. Safety first, that’s what I always say. We just have to figure out why the brake light is not working.
We were told something about maybe the switch being the problem. You know, the thing you press with your hand or foot to make the brake light come on? It seems like the switch for the rear brake does not want to work but the front one does. My boy will have a look at that too.
This whole motorcycle thing is too complicated. Maybe we should stick to riding horses like the old times, at least they were simple things. But this motorcycle allows my boy to have a good ride to and from work, we will just have to get the brake light fixed as soon as possible to keep him safe. Now we just need to look into those parts that might need changing, or have a go at trying to fix them ourselves. Wish us good luck because we will need it.
