Well, howdy there! Today, we’re gonna yak about them fancy British cars, the kind you see in them crossword puzzles. You know, the ones that cost an arm and a leg, even more if you want the fancy wheels and such.

Them city folks with their big words, they like to call ’em “pricey British sports cars, for short”. But around here, we just say “them expensive speedsters” or something like that. Ain’t nobody got time for long-winded talk, ya know?
Now, I ain’t no car expert, mind you. I drive an old pickup truck that’s seen better days, but even I know a thing or two about these fancy cars. They’re always poppin’ up in them crosswords, them little squares with the tricky questions.
Sometimes the puzzle asks for a short name, like three or four letters. And let me tell ya, there ain’t too many short words for these fancy cars. Mostly it’s “JAGS”, you know, like them Jaguar cars. Rich folks love them Jaguars, always zooming around town like they own the place.
- Sometimes they want a longer word, maybe five or six letters. Then it gets tricky. Could be “ASTON”, for them Aston Martins, the kind that James Bond drives in them movies. Or maybe “LOTUS”, them little cars that look like they’re glued to the road.
- And then there’s “MORGAN”, them old-timey looking cars, real classy and all, but probably not something you’d want to drive on a bumpy dirt road like we got around here.
I reckon there’s a whole bunch of other names too, but my memory ain’t what it used to be. It’s like trying to remember all the grandkids’ names on Christmas morning. They just all blend together after a while.
But one thing’s for sure, these crossword people love them British cars. Seems like every other puzzle has one of them in it. And it ain’t just the short names neither. Sometimes they give you a whole sentence, like “British sports car produced from 1996 to 2021,” and you gotta figure out if they’re talking about the “Elise” or the “Exige”, both them Lotus cars. Makes my head spin just thinking about it.
You know, I tried doing one of them crosswords once. Thought it would be a nice way to pass the time on a rainy afternoon. Well, let me tell ya, it wasn’t as easy as it looked. All them fancy words and clues, it was like trying to understand a foreign language. I spent more time scratching my head than actually filling in the squares. And when I finally did get an answer, half the time it was wrong!
So, I figured I’m better off sticking to what I know. Like driving my old pickup truck, tending to my garden, and gossiping with the ladies at the church bake sale. Leave them fancy crosswords and pricey British sports cars to them city folks. They got the brains and the money for that kind of stuff.
But hey, if you’re into them crossword puzzles, more power to ya. Just don’t come crying to me when you can’t figure out a four-letter word for a British sports car. I’ll probably just tell ya to go ask one of them smarty-pants college kids down at the feed store. They know everything, or so they think.
Anyways, that’s about all I got to say about them pricey British cars and them crosswords. It’s more than I ever thought I’d know, to be honest. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got a pot of beans on the stove that needs tending to. And maybe later, I’ll just stick to a good ol’ game of checkers. At least I know how to play that!
