Okay, so, the other day, I was thinking about getting a new toy for my kid. I wanted something fun, you know, something that could keep him busy for hours. I did a quick search online for “toy pickup truck and trailer” and wow, there were so many options.

I started by checking out some big online stores. I saw this G.C 4 Pack Pickup Truck Trailer Toys for like $29.99. It had some good reviews, but I wasn’t sure if it was the right fit. Then I saw a John Deere Tomy Construction Set for around $25.66, which looked pretty cool too. But the shipping was extra, and I was trying to find something with free shipping if I could.
Then I remembered there’s this store called Tractor Supply Co. nearby. I looked up their website, and they had some toy cars and trucks too. I thought about going there, but I was feeling a bit lazy and wanted to see what else was out there first. I also browsed Target’s website since they often have good deals and same-day delivery, which is super convenient.
After that, I stumbled upon a bunch of unique and custom toy trucks with trailers. There was this one, a 1/32 Pickup Truck and Trailer Toy with lights and pull-back action, made of alloy. It looked really neat, like a mini RV model kit. I kept looking and found some more cool stuff, like a Large ATV Toy With Trailer Speedboat for around $30.99, and a Maxx Action 17 Vehicle Transport for only $11.99. There was even a Vokodo Toy Semi Truck Trailer, which was pretty big at 14.5 inches, for $19.95.
I almost bought one online, but then I thought, “Why not make this a fun project?” So, I decided to try and build one myself! I gathered some materials from around the house. I used an old cardboard box for the body of the truck and the trailer. Then I found some bottle caps that would work perfectly as wheels. For the axles, I used some old straws and skewers. It took me a few hours, cutting, gluing, and painting, but it was a lot of fun.
- First, I cut the cardboard into the shape of a truck and a trailer.
- Next, I painted them with some bright colors that my kid loves.
- I attached the bottle cap wheels to the straws and skewers, making sure they could spin.
- Finally, I connected the trailer to the truck with a little hook made from a paper clip.
The Result
The truck and trailer came out pretty awesome, if I do say so myself. My kid loved it! He started playing with it right away, loading up the trailer with his other small toys and driving them around the house. It wasn’t perfect, but it was made with love, and that’s what counts, right? Plus, it was a great way to spend an afternoon being creative and doing something fun together.
