Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get my SUV organized for, like, forever. It’s always a mess of random stuff – camping gear, kids’ sports equipment, reusable grocery bags… you name it, it was rolling around back there. I finally decided to tackle it and build a custom SUV box storage. Here’s how it went down:

Planning and Measuring
First, I grabbed a tape measure and got some dimensions of the cargo area. I wanted to make sure the box fit snugly, but wasn’t too big to get in and out. Also figured out how high I wanted it – I still needed to be able to see out the back window!
Gathering Supplies
Next, I headed to the home improvement store. I picked up some plywood, screws, and wood glue. Oh, and some heavy-duty carpet to cover the outside. I wanted it to look decent and protect my stuff. The guys at the lumber store cut my wood acrroding to the size I wrote down, which saves me a lot of time.
Building the Box
I got a basic box. I’m no carpenter, the cuts given by the store really helped me a lot.I laid out the pieces and started screwing them together. I used plenty of wood glue, too, for extra strength. Some Clamps are used to hold the plywood when the glue get dried
Adding the Carpet
Once the box was built, I cut the carpet to size and glued it on. This was kind of messy, but worth it. I used a staple gun in a few spots to help hold the carpet in place while the glue dried.
Testing and Securing
I popped it into the SUV. I added some bungee cords to hold it securely in place, so it wouldn’t slide around while I’m driving.
The Final Result
It’s not fancy, but it’s super functional. I organized everything into the box – camping gear in one section, sports stuff in another, and so on. It’s so much easier to find things now, and the back of my SUV looks a million times better. I can even put groceries on top of the box without them rolling all over the place.
Honestly, the whole project took me most of a weekend, but it was totally worth it. If your SUV is a disaster zone like mine was, I highly recommend doing something like this. It’s a game-changer!
