Well, let me tell ya ’bout these here Sterling pickup trucks. I ain’t no expert, mind you, but I know a thing or two ’bout what makes a truck a good workhorse.

What is this Sterling truck anyway? Folks keep talkin’ ’bout it, so I figured I’d take a look-see. Turns out, it ain’t been around for too long. Started up in ’98, they say, after some big company buyouts. Ford, Freightliner, Daimler somethin’-or-other… Too much fancy talk for me. But the bottom line is, they made these Sterling trucks for a spell, then stopped ’round 2009.
Now, one of them trucks they made was called the Sterling Bullet. Heard it was a tough one. They say it’s a medium-duty truck, which I guess means it can haul a good load, but ain’t as big as them eighteen-wheelers. It’s kinda like a dressed-up Dodge Ram, you know, the ones them fellas use for workin’ around the farm or construction sites.
- They got different sizes, like the 3500, 4500, and 5500. The bigger the number, the more it can carry, I reckon.
- And they got this big ol’ engine, a Cummins somethin’-somethin’. A 6.7-liter, they say. Sounds powerful enough to pull a plow through a muddy field.
- The thing weighs a heap too. Like, thousands of pounds. That’s a lotta metal, let me tell ya.
I saw some pictures of it online. It’s got a different lookin’ grille than the Dodge Ram. Makes it stand out a bit, I guess. But other than that, they look pretty similar.
Why did they stop makin’ ’em? Well, that’s the million-dollar question, ain’t it? They say it was a “business decision.” Whatever that means. Probably somethin’ to do with money and sellin’ enough trucks. Too bad, though. Some folks really liked ’em, from what I hear.
Can you still get one? Sure, if you look hard enough. You ain’t gonna find a new one, that’s for sure. But there’s plenty of used ones out there. You gotta go lookin’ at them truck sales websites or maybe find a dealer who sells used trucks. They got all kinds, from one-ton pickups to them bigger fellas. Just gotta be careful, you know? Make sure it ain’t been beat to heck before you buy it.
What’s it good for? Well, a truck’s a truck, ain’t it? It’s for workin’. Haulin’ stuff, pullin’ stuff, gettin’ things done. You can use it on the farm, take it to the job site, or even just drive it around town if you want somethin’ big and tough. I seen some folks use ’em for haulin’ horses, too. That Bullet model, they say it’s good for voca- somethin’ work. That just means it can do a lot of different jobs, I think.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ it’s the best truck ever made. But it seems like a solid piece of machinery. If you need a tough truck and you don’t mind buyin’ used, one of these Sterlings might just do the trick. Just remember to check it out good before you hand over your hard-earned cash. And don’t let them city slickers try to charge you an arm and a leg. They see a country fella comin’, they think they can pull a fast one. But you’re smarter than that, ain’t ya?
So that’s the lowdown on them Sterling pickup trucks, as best as I can tell ya. Like I said, I ain’t no expert. But I know a good workin’ truck when I see one. And these Sterlings, they seem like they fit the bill.
