Alright, let’s jaw about them sports cars from the ’80s and ’90s. You know, the kind them young fellers used to zip around in, makin’ all that noise. I ain’t no expert, mind you, just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two.

Back in them days, things were different, ya hear? Cars, they weren’t all fancy computers and such. They were… well, they were cars. Made of metal, mostly, and they rumbled and roared. Not like these quiet things they got now.
Now, I remember seein’ some of these “sports cars” flyin’ down the road. One fella, he had this… what was it called? A Porsche somethin’ or other. Looked like a bug, kinda, but it was fast. Real fast. Made a heck of a racket too. I reckon them Porsches, they were somethin’ special back then, and probably still are for them that likes ’em.
Then there was them Nissan fellers. They had these sporty lookin’ cars too. Not like the pickup trucks most folks ’round here drove, no sir. These were low to the ground and sleek. I heard tell they called one of ’em the Maxima, and another one was… a Z car somethin’? Anyway, them Japanese cars, they were startin’ to get real popular. Folks said they were reliable, which was more than you could say for some of them American cars back then, no offense.
- Ford Escort: Now, I heard Ford made a bunch of cars, but I don’t rightly remember them Escorts bein’ sporty. Maybe they had a special one? Folks ’round here mostly drove the pickups.
- Honda Accord and Civic: Them Hondas, they were everywhere. Sensible cars, folks said. But I guess they made some sporty ones too, the Accord and the Civic. Young folks liked ’em, I hear.
- Toyota Camry and Corolla: Same story with Toyota. Good cars, but I ain’t sure about them bein’ real “sports cars.” Maybe some fancy versions, I dunno. The Camry and Corolla, those names stick in my head.
And let’s not forget about them BMW and Mercedes fellers. Them were fancy cars, real fancy. Expensive too, I bet. I only ever saw ’em drivin’ through town, never stopped at the diner or nothin’. But you could tell they were somethin’ special just by lookin’ at ’em. The 5 series, that was the BMW one, right? And Mercedes, they had them C and E classes. Sounded like a bunch of letters to me.
There were others too, I reckon. Subaru, made somethin’ called the Legacy. Hyundai with the Elantra. And Mitsubishi, they had somethin’ called the Galant. Lots of names, hard to keep ’em all straight. Seemed like everybody was makin’ cars back then, tryin’ to get a piece of the pie.
But them sports cars, they were different. They were about speed and style, not just gettin’ from point A to point B. They were about feelin’ the wind in your hair, even though most of ’em had roofs, I guess. And they were about showin’ off a little, too. Lettin’ folks know you had somethin’ special.
I ain’t drivin’ no sports car myself, never did. Too busy workin’ and raisin’ a family. But I can appreciate a fine machine when I see one. And them sports cars from the ’80s and ’90s, well, they were somethin’ else. They had character, ya know? Somethin’ you don’t see much of these days. Too much plastic, if you ask me. Back then, it was real metal and real engines, and that’s all there was to it.
So, that’s my two cents on them sports cars. Like I said, I ain’t no expert, just an old woman rememberin’ how things used to be. But one thing’s for sure, them cars, they left a mark. They were part of a time when things were simpler, maybe, but definitely more excitin’ on the roads, at least from what I saw.
