Okay, so I’ve been driving this Ford Edge for a while, and I gotta say, it’s been a pretty solid ride. But like anyone, I started wondering what else is out there. What if I wanted something a bit different, but still in that same kind of SUV ballpark? So I started digging around, doing some research, you know, the usual.

First, I listed out what I liked about the Edge. It’s got a comfy ride, the ST model’s got some real pep, and there’s plenty of space inside. On the flip side, the gas mileage on the regular engine isn’t amazing, it’s getting a bit long in the tooth, and the starting price isn’t exactly cheap.
Knowing all of that, I started hunting for alternatives. There’s the Chevy Equinox, which seems like the Edge’s main competition. I made sure to look at that one closer.
Then I expanded my search. I wanted to find cars that had more room, without losing out on performance or fuel efficiency. You know, finding that sweet spot.
- Acura MDX, that’s a fancy one. It’s a mid-size luxury crossover, so definitely a step up in the price bracket.
- Porsche Macan, another luxury option. This one’s a subcompact, so a bit smaller, but still pretty swanky.
- GMC Terrain, now this one caught my eye. It’s cheaper than the Edge, the top trim, Denali, is priced similar to the base model of the Edge.
After looking at those, I also learned that Ford’s actually retiring the Edge after 2023. They’re going all-in on electric vehicles, so that’s why they’re making that move.
So, I compiled all my notes, compared prices, features, all that good stuff. It was a lot of information to go through, but hey, you gotta do your homework, right?
My Findings
Well, after all that searching and comparing, I realized a few things. There are definitely some good alternatives to the Ford Edge out there. Whether you want something with a bit more luxury like the Acura MDX or Porsche Macan, or something more budget-friendly like the GMC Terrain, there’s something for everyone.
And with Ford moving towards electric, it makes sense that they’d retire the Edge. It’s a sign of the times, I guess. It was a fun little project, diving into all these different SUVs. I’m not sure if I’ll actually switch from my Edge, but it’s nice to know what else is out there.
