Well, let me tell ya ’bout that 1975 International Pickup Truck. It ain’t no fancy car, ya know? Just a good, ol’ workhorse. Back in the day, folks used ’em for everythin’. Haulin’ hay, takin’ pigs to market, you name it. These trucks, they were tough as nails.

Now, if you got yourself one of these old pickups, you might be thinkin’ ’bout fixin’ her up. It ain’t gonna be easy, mind you. But if you got the grit, you can bring ‘er back to life. First thing you gotta do is take a good, hard look at what you got. Is she rusty? Is the engine runnin’? Things like that. Assess the condition, they call it.
- Check the body. Look for rust holes and dents.
- See if the engine turns over. Don’t expect it to start right away, though.
- Look at the tires. They’re probably flat, if they ain’t rotted away altogether.
- Take a peek inside. Mice like to make nests in old trucks, ya know.
Once you know what you’re dealin’ with, you can start fixin’ her up. The mechanical stuff is important. You want that engine purrin’ like a kitten, not coughin’ and sputterin’ like a sick cow.
Gotta get that engine runnin’, that’s for sure. Might need a new carburetor, new spark plugs, maybe even a whole new engine. Don’t forget the brakes, neither. Can’t be drivin’ around with bad brakes, that’s just askin’ for trouble. And the fuel system, gotta clean that out. Old gas turns to varnish, you know. Won’t do ya no good. Gotta drain that old gas and clean the tank and fuel lines good. Then she will run much better.
After the engine is taken care of, you gotta fix the body. Nobody wants to drive around in a rusty ol’ truck, unless they’re tryin’ to look like a hillbilly, I guess. You gotta patch up them rust holes and bang out them dents. And then, there is the paint job. Gotta get a good coat of paint on her to keep her from rustin’ again. You can paint it the original color, or you can get fancy and paint it somethin’ different. It’s your truck, do what you want.
Then there’s the inside of the truck. That’s what they call the interior upgrades, I reckon. The seats are probably ripped and torn. You can get ’em reupholstered, or you can just throw some seat covers on ’em. And the floor mats, they’re probably worn out too. You can get new ones, or you can just use some old carpet scraps. It ain’t gotta be fancy, just gotta be functional. Make it comfortable, that is what I say.
Fixin’ up an old truck like this 1975 International Pickup Truck ain’t for the faint of heart. It takes time, money, and a whole lotta elbow grease. But when you’re done, you got yourself somethin’ special. You got a truck that’ll turn heads and get you where you need to go. And you did it yourself, that’s the best part. You brought somethin’ old back to life, that is what I am talkin’ about.
Remember them old trucks? They stopped makin’ ’em in 1975. End of production, they called it. Not too many of ’em left, I reckon. So if you got one, you got a piece of history. Take care of it, and it’ll take care of you. These trucks, they are part of our heritage, you know, the things our country was built on. Good, strong trucks for good, hardworking folks. And that is the truth.
