Hey everyone, so I decided to add a rear view camera to my pickup truck. It’s something I’ve been meaning to do for a while, and I finally got around to it.

First, I started looking into different cameras. There are so many options out there, but I wanted something with HD 1080P, no delay, and that would work well at night. It also needed to be waterproof because, well, it’s going to be outside. I looked at a bunch of them and compared features, and finally settled on one that seemed like a good fit for me.
Getting the camera
Once I ordered the camera, waiting for it to arrive was the hardest part. When it finally showed up, I was super eager to get it installed. The package had everything I needed, which was a relief. I really didn’t want to have to run to the store for extra parts.
Installing the camera
I decided to mount the camera on the license plate frame. It seemed like the easiest spot, and it wouldn’t require drilling any holes in my truck. I got my tools out and started the process. I connected the wires according to the instructions, which, thankfully, were pretty straightforward.
- First, I attached the camera to the license plate frame.
- Then, I routed the wires through the truck. This part was a bit tricky, but I managed to get them through without much hassle.
- Next, I connected the power and video cables. The camera system I got was a plug-and-play type, so it was pretty simple to set up.
Setting up the monitor
The camera came with a small monitor that I mounted on my dashboard. I made sure it was in a spot where I could easily see it without it blocking my view of the road. Once everything was connected, I turned on the truck and put it in reverse to test it out.
Testing it out
And there it was! A clear, wide-angle view of what was behind me. I tested it during the day, and the picture quality was great. Later that night, I went out again to see how it performed in the dark. Even with minimal light, the camera provided a clear image thanks to the LED lights. It really made a difference, especially when backing into tight spots.
Final thoughts
I’m really happy with how it all turned out. Having a rear view camera makes backing up so much easier and safer. It’s definitely one of the best upgrades I’ve done to my truck. If you’re thinking about adding one to your vehicle, I’d say go for it. Just make sure you pick a good quality camera and take your time with the installation.
That’s it for this project. I hope you found this helpful. Stay tuned for more updates on my truck adventures!
