Okay, so, I got this idea the other day, right? I was looking at my pickup truck and thinking, “Man, it’s hot out here. I wish I had a pool.” Then it hit me – why not combine the two? I mean, the truck bed is basically a giant tub, just waiting to be filled with water, right? So, I decided to turn my pickup into a mobile swimming pool. Let me tell you, it was quite the adventure.

First things first, I needed to figure out how much water my truck bed could even hold. It’s a decent size, about 6 feet long, 5 feet wide, and maybe 2.5 feet deep. After some quick math – which, let’s be honest, isn’t my strong suit – I figured it was around 75 cubic feet. I had to look it up, but apparently, that’s about 561 gallons of water. That’s a lot of water, folks!
Next up, I had to find something to make the truck bed watertight. I thought about using a regular tarp, but I wanted something that was super durable and wouldn’t easily tear. But I went with a heavy-duty tarp, the biggest one I could find. I wanted to make sure it was bigger than the truck bed so I could wrap it around the edges. A 6-foot bed and I grabbed a 92” tarp, leaving about six inches down either side. So I spread it out in the bed, making sure to overlap the sides and corners. This was a bit of a workout, especially in the heat, but I was determined.
Then came the fun part – filling it up! I grabbed my garden hose and started filling the truck bed. I also invited my neighbor to use his hose to fill the truck bed. It took a while, and I had to keep an eye on the tarp to make sure it stayed in place. It took almost a whole day. Seeing the water level rise was pretty exciting, I gotta say. I felt like a kid again, playing with water on a hot day. And my kids were also super happy to see it.
Once it was full, I couldn’t resist jumping in. The water was cool and refreshing, a perfect escape from the summer heat. I even invited a few buddies over, and we had a blast chilling in my makeshift pool. And they all said that it was one of the most fun they had recently. We splashed around, played some music, and just enjoyed the coolness. It was like having our own little oasis right there in my backyard.
It wasn’t just about the fun, though. It was also about the challenge of making it happen. It felt good to take an idea, figure out how to do it, and then actually see it through. Plus, it was way cheaper than installing a real pool!
So, there you have it – the story of how I turned my pickup truck into a pool. It was a fun project, a great way to beat the heat, and a reminder that sometimes, the best ideas are the simplest ones. If you’ve got a pickup truck and some spare time, I highly recommend giving it a try. Just remember to be careful, make sure everything is secure, and most importantly, have fun!
