Okay, so I wanted to build a little model of a pickup truck. You know, just something fun to do on a rainy Sunday afternoon. I didn’t have any fancy kits or anything, just stuff I found around the house.

Getting Started
First, I needed a base. I grabbed an old cardboard box – the kind you get from online orders. Strong cardboard is key here, you don’t want it to collapse!
- I cut out a rectangular shape for the chassis. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, it’s a model!
- Then I needed wheels. Bottle caps! Four of them, all the same size. I poked holes in the center of each one.
Building the Body
This was the tricky part. I used another piece of cardboard and kind of folded it and shaped to look like a cabin, you know, the cabin of a truck. A lot of taping, a lot of cutting to get it, more or less, into shape.
I even cut out small rectangles for the windows. It looked so rough. LOL!
Next, I created the truck bed. Just another rectangular piece, folded the sides up, and taped it to the back of the chassis. More tape! Tape is your best friend in this kind of project.
Putting It All Together
I used some skewers (the kind you use for barbecues) as axles. I slid them through the holes in the bottle caps and then attached them to the chassis with, you guessed it, more tape! I made sure the wheels could spin freely.
Then I taped the cabin and the truck bed onto the chassis. It was starting to actually look like a pickup truck! A very, very basic one, but still!
Finishing Touches (Sort Of)
I thought about painting it, but I didn’t have any paint at home. I did find some markers, though. So I drew some details, like headlights and a grill. Very simple, just to give it a bit of character.
It’s not going to win any awards, that’s for sure. But, it was a fun little project, and it kept me busy for a few hours. And it actually rolls!
It shows how you can create with just cardboard and tape.
