Alright, so you wanna know about motorcycle dashcams, huh? Let me tell ya, it ain’t rocket science. It’s just a little camera you stick on your bike, like you stick a picture on the wall, but this one watches the road. Simple as that.

Why you need one of these thingamajigs? Well, I tell ya, it’s like havin’ an extra pair of eyes. These roads, they ain’t safe no more. Crazy drivers everywhere, cuttin’ you off, swervin’ around. If somethin’ happens, you got proof. You know, like, “See! It wasn’t my fault! This here video shows it!” Otherwise, it’s your word against theirs, and let me tell ya, that ain’t always gonna work out in your favor.
Now, where do you put it? Well, some folks put it on the handlebars, right there in front. Some put it on the dashboard, if their bike has one of those fancy things. Some even stick it on their helmet! I heard some even stick it on the back of their bike to watch what is behind them. Lord knows what they gonna see there… mostly just the cars they left in the dust! Makes sense, I guess, see everything that is goin’ on.
You got all sorts of these cameras too. Some just watch the front, some watch the front and the back. Some even watch you, the rider! I ain’t sure why you’d wanna watch yourself ridin’, but hey, to each their own. Some big shots even have these fancy ones with “G-sensor” doohickeys. Sounds complicated, but it just means it starts recordin’ if somethin’ hits the bike. Smart, ain’t it?
- Front-facing cameras: These just watch the road ahead. Good for seein’ what’s comin’ at ya.
- Dual cameras: These watch front and back. Covers all your bases, you know?
- 360-degree cameras: These watch everything! A bit fancy for my taste, but hey, if you got the money, why not?
- Helmet cameras: These go on your helmet, watch where you look. Good for lookin’ at the scenery, I guess.
Now, someone told me about somethin’ called “loop recording.” Don’t ask me what it means exactly, but it sounds like the camera keeps recordin’ and recordin’, and when it runs outta space, it just starts over, writin’ over the old stuff. That way, you don’t gotta worry about deletin’ nothin’. The camera does it for ya. Pretty slick, huh? And they also told me some new cameras can do all kind of fancy things… even work with your cell phone! Told me somethin’ about Apple Car Play and Andriod auto, not sure what that is, youngsters and their tech these days. As long as it shows what happens on the road, I’m all for it!
So, which one should you get? Well, that depends on what you need and how much you wanna spend. If you just want somethin’ simple, a front-facing camera will do ya fine. If you want somethin’ fancy, with all the bells and whistles, well, you can get one of those too. Just don’t go spendin’ all your hard earned money on some fancy doodad you don’t need. And make sure it can take the heat, you know? These things get hot sittin’ out in the sun all day.
And don’t forget to get a big enough memory card, or whatever they call it. You don’t want the camera to stop recordin’ just when you need it most. And make sure you know how to use it! Read the instructions, or get someone to show ya. Nothin’ worse than havin’ a camera and not knowin’ how to work it.
What about those GoPro things? Yeah, I heard about those. They take real nice pictures, real clear and all. But they ain’t really made for this dashcam stuff. They don’t record for long enough, and they can’t take the heat. You need a real dashcam, somethin’ that’s made for the job. Like that one they were talkin’ about…. the COX… somethin’ or other. Sounded fancy and expensive!
Look, bottom line is, gettin’ a motorcycle dashcam is a smart thing to do. It’s like insurance, but cheaper. It protects you, gives you peace of mind. And that’s worth a whole lot, let me tell ya. So get yourself one, learn how to use it, and ride safe out there!
And one last thing, don’t go fiddlin’ with the camera while you’re ridin’! Keep your eyes on the road, that’s the most important thing. Safety first, always!
