Okay, so the other day I was cruising on my bike, feeling the wind in my hair, and BAM! Next thing I know, I’m sliding across the pavement. Luckily, I was geared up, so I walked away with just a few scrapes. But it got me thinking, what do people even call it when you wipe out on a motorcycle?

I hopped on my computer and started digging. Here’s what I did:
My Little Research Journey
- First Stop: Google. I just typed in “fall off motorcycle terms” and hoped for the best.
I got some basic stuff, but nothing really clicked.
- Then: Motorcycle Forums. I figured, who better to ask than a bunch of bikers? I hit up a few forums and posed the question. I read through old threads, too, looking for any slang or common phrases.
- Deep Dive: Reddit. Of course, Reddit has a motorcycle subreddit (r/motorcycles, if you’re curious). I searched within the subreddit and also posted my own question to see what those folks had to say.
- Finally: YouTube Crash Compilations.
Okay, I know, I know I also watched a bunch of motorcycle crash videos.
Don’t judge! But I was listening, for once, to see what words people used in the comments.
After all that digging and searching,Here’s the deal, there isn’t one perfect term. But I rounded up a bunch of ways people describe taking a spill on two wheels:
- “Lowside”– I am fall down, when I try a curve too fast.
- “Highside”– I heard about this one is way more dangerous, where you get thrown over the *!
- “Washed out”– This is a familiar word, when your tires lose traction, like on gravel or something.
- “Binned it”-This is a great word I found.
- “Ate it”-This is what i say to my friend.
- “Went down”-This is a normal word.
So, yeah, that’s my little adventure in motorcycle mishap terminology.
Remember always wear your gear.
Stay safe out there, folks!
