Okay, so I’ve been wanting to add some extra comfort to my motorcycle’s backrest for a while now. My passenger (usually my wife) has been complaining about it being a bit too hard on longer rides. I finally got around to finding a solution: a universal slip-over pad.

First, I looked around online. I didn’t want anything too fancy or expensive, just something that would do the job. After browsing a bit, I found a few options. Some were model-specific, which I didn’t want. I needed something that would fit whatever bike I might have in the future, too.
Then, I focused on universal-fit ones. I wanted one made of a good, thick material, probably some sort of memory foam, covered in a weatherproof fabric. Black would be perfect to match the seat, obviously.
The Installation
Once I received it, I wanted to put it on the bike right away. It was pretty straightforward. My backrest is a standard shape, thank goodness. The pad just slipped right over it. It was like a big, comfy sock for the backrest.
- I first made sure that I had a clean surface for the pad.
- I simply stretched the pad’s opening.
- and gently pulled it down over the backrest.
- It fit snugly, which is exactly what I wanted. No slipping or sliding around.
There were a couple of elastic straps with buckles underneath. I clicked those together and tightened them up to make sure the pad wouldn’t go anywhere, even at highway speeds. Done!
The first test ride was a success! My wife immediately noticed the difference. She said it was way more comfortable, and her back didn’t ache after our usual weekend ride. That’s a win in my book! I’m really happy with how easy it was to install and how much of a difference it made. My Passenger is going to love it and there will be less complaining!
