So, I saw this ad the other day about wrecked pickup trucks for sale, and I thought, “Why not?” I’ve always wanted a project car, and a busted-up truck seemed like a good place to start. Plus, it’s way cheaper than buying something new or even a decent used one.

First, I checked out this website, Copart. They’ve got tons of salvage vehicles, including trucks. Browsed through the listings, saw a few that looked promising. Most of them had some serious damage, but hey, that’s what I was looking for.
Then I hit up eBay. You can find anything on eBay, right? And sure enough, they had a bunch of salvage cars and trucks. Some were in better shape than others, but the prices were all over the place. I spent a good few hours comparing listings, trying to find a balance between price and the amount of work I was willing to put in.
After that, I stumbled upon this other site, IAA. They specialize in auctioning off wrecked vehicles, mostly to dealers and repair shops. But anyone can register and bid. I found a couple of Dodge Rams that caught my eye. They were pretty beat up, but the starting bids were super low.
I decided to register on both Copart and IAA, just to see how the auctions worked. It’s all online, which is kind of cool. You can set up notifications for specific makes and models, and they’ll email you when new listings pop up.
Honestly, I spent way more time than I should have. But at least I am able to find one I like.
I finally ended up buying a truck on Copart.
- It’s a Ford F-150, a few years old.
- Got some front-end damage, but the engine seems okay.
- Paid less than I expected, which is a win.
Now comes the fun part – fixing it up! I’m no mechanic, but I’m pretty handy. I figure I can learn as I go. There are tons of tutorials online, and I’ve already started stocking up on tools. Wish me luck!
To be honest, I don’t know if I can pull it off. However, it is an interesting journey, and I will keep you guys updated.
