So, today I decided to mess around with the sous vide thing. I’ve seen it on cooking shows, and it looks fancy, so I figured, why not give it a shot?

First, I grabbed a random piece of meat from the fridge. I think it was a steak, but honestly, who knows? I put it in a ziplock bag. Then I started looking for our vacuum sealer, I’ve seen my wife used it before. After some rummaging in the kitchen, I finally found the vacuum sealer tucked away in a drawer. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to use the thing. It’s more complicated than it looks, but after a few tries, I managed to seal the bag, not perfectly, but good enough.
Next, I filled a big pot with water and got this sous vide cooker thingy. I clipped it to the side of the pot, set the temperature to some number I saw on the internet, and dropped the bag in. And that’s where the waiting game started.
Here’s what I did:
- Grabbed the meat: Found a piece of meat and tossed it in a bag.
- Sealed it up: Fought with the vacuum sealer until it somewhat worked.
- Water bath time: Filled a pot, attached the sous vide cooker, and set the temperature.
- Cooked it: Let it sit in the hot water for a couple of hours, as the internet told me to.
After a few hours, I pulled the bag out. The meat looked…different. It wasn’t brown, which was weird. So, I heated up a pan with some oil and seared the steak for a minute on each side. That made it look a bit more normal.
The Result
Honestly, it was pretty good! The steak was tender and juicy, not like when I usually grill it and it ends up looking like a hockey puck. I guess this sous vide thing might actually be worth the hassle. I might try it again sometime, maybe with some chicken or fish. Who knows, maybe I’ll even get good at using the vacuum sealer eventually. It’s kind of fun playing chef, even if I’m just following some random instructions from the internet.
So yeah, that’s my sous vide adventure. Not bad for a first try, if I do say so myself. Maybe next time I’ll even add some spices or something. We’ll see.
