Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about these here toolboxes for the back of your pickup truck. Ya know, the kind you haul stuff in? Yeah, those.

What kinda box you need, anyhow? It ain’t one-size-fits-all, that’s for sure. Got a big ol’ truck like a Ford F-150 or a Chevy Silverado? You’re gonna need a big ‘un, somethin’ like 69 or 71 inches wide. Got one of them Ford Super Duty fellas? Then go a bit bigger, 71 to 73 inches. Them smaller trucks, like the Chevy Colorado or Toyota Tacoma, they don’t need as much. A 63-inch box should do ya just fine. It’s like fittin’ shoes, gotta get the right size or it ain’t gonna work, right?
Now, you gotta think about what you’re gonna put in it. Just a few wrenches and a hammer? Or you plannin’ on carryin’ the whole dang workshop back there? That’s where the drawers come in. The more drawers you got, the more stuff you can keep separate and easy to find. Nothin’ worse than rummagin’ around in a big ol’ box tryin’ to find that one little screw. So think about that, you hear? Lots of drawers is good, keeps things tidy.
- Big trucks need big boxes.
- Small trucks need smaller boxes.
- More drawers mean more organization.
And don’t forget about what it’s made of. You want somethin’ that’ll last, somethin’ that can take a beatin’. Them aluminum ones are pretty good, they don’t rust too easy. But steel’s tough too, just gotta watch out for the rust if you live where it rains a lot. It’s your money so you decide. I ain’t tellin’ ya what to do, just givin’ ya some things to think about.
Then there’s the security. You don’t want some lowlife sneakin’ off with your tools, do ya? So make sure it’s got a good lock, somethin’ that’ll keep them honest fellas honest. Some of them boxes got these fancy locks that are hard to pick. That’s what you want, somethin’ that’ll make them thieves think twice. Keep your tools safe, that’s the main thing. Don’t want to have to buy new ones every other week.
Now, there are different types of boxes too. You got the ones that go across the bed, the crossover ones they call ’em. Then you got the ones that go along the side, them side mount boxes. And some even fit under the bed cover, real sneaky-like. Which one you get depends on what you like and what you need. Me, I like them crossover ones, keeps everything up outta the way. But that’s just me.
Some of them boxes are angled too, so they fit better under them tonneau covers. You know, them covers that keep your stuff dry? If you got one of them, you might need an angled box. It’s all about makin’ sure everything fits right, see? No sense in buyin’ somethin’ that don’t work.
And don’t go buyin’ the first box you see, shop around a bit. Look at different brands, different models. Read some reviews, see what other folks are sayin’. You don’t wanna get stuck with a lemon, now do ya? Take your time and do your homework. It’ll save you trouble in the long run.
There’s this one box, the UWS EC10302, it’s one of them angled crossover ones. Folks seem to like it, says it’s pretty good. But there’s lots of others out there too. Just gotta find the one that’s right for you and your truck. And remember to measure the bed of your truck before you go buying anything. Don’t want to drive all the way to the store and then have to turn right around. That ain’t nobody’s idea of fun.
So there ya have it, a little bit of know-how about pickup truck toolboxes. Just remember to think about the size, the drawers, what it’s made of, and how secure it is. Do that, and you’ll be just fine. Now go on and get yourself a good box, and keep them tools safe and sound.
Pick the right toolbox and you will be happy. Pick the wrong one and you will be kicking yourself for a long, long time. So choose wisely my friend, choose wisely. And don’t forget to have a good day.
