Hey everyone, I’ve been wrestling with a weird issue on my dual-sport bike lately and figured I’d share my experience here. So, I’ve got this bike, and the LED flashers were working perfectly fine, but I realized the brake light wasn’t doing its thing.

First off, I checked the most obvious thing – the bulb. It’s easy to overlook, but yeah, it was fine. I even swapped it out with a new one just to be sure, but nope, no change. The brake light just refused to light up.
Next, I started suspecting the socket. Maybe it was corroded or something, preventing a good connection. I took a close look, cleaned it up a bit, but still nothing. It looked okay to my untrained eye, but what do I know?
- Checked bulb – It was fine.
- Checked socket – Looked fine, cleaned it anyway.
Then, someone mentioned that a bad blinker relay could mess with the brake lights. Apparently, they sometimes share some wiring. This was getting beyond my basic knowledge, but I decided to investigate. It is difficult for me to find the right relay for replacement. But still I want to try.
I tested the continuity of the brake light switch with a multimeter, and it seemed to be functioning. I pressed it a bunch of times, and the multimeter beeped consistently. The brake light switch passed the continuity test, and I confirmed that the switch was working as expected. So, the switch probably wasn’t the culprit.
I also traced some of the wiring, looking for any obvious shorts or loose connections. I followed the wires from the brake light to wherever they went, wiggling them a bit to see if anything changed. Nothing stood out, but honestly, I’m no electrician, so I could have easily missed something.
- Tested brake light switch – Seemed okay.
- Checked wiring – Couldn’t find anything obviously wrong.
Someone suggested checking the ground connections. They said to find all the circuits related to the headlight, turn signals, and brake lights and use a multimeter. I tried that, but I got a bit lost in the maze of wires. I am not sure if I tested it right or not. It seems that it is not the grounding problem.
Stuck in a Rut
At this point, I’m pretty much stuck. The flashers work, the brake light switch seems fine, the bulb and socket are okay, and I can’t find any obvious wiring issues. It’s frustrating, to say the least. I think I need to take the bike to a mechanic friend for help. Maybe he can figure this out for me.
Anyway, I just wanted to share my little adventure in motorcycle troubleshooting. It’s definitely a learning experience. If anyone has any bright ideas, I’m all ears!
