So, I’ve been trying to figure out this whole local hauling thing with my pickup truck. It all started when my neighbor, old Mr. Johnson, asked if I could help him move some stuff to his daughter’s place a few towns over. I thought, “Why not? I’ve got a truck, and it’s mostly just sitting there.”

First thing I did was look online. Typed in “local hauling jobs pickup truck” and, man, was I overwhelmed. There’s a ton of websites and apps out there. Indeed was one of them, kept popping up with listings for owner-operator drivers and such. I saw there were like, 198 jobs, then another search showed 183. It was a lot to take in.
Then I stumbled upon this idea of using apps to find gigs. GoShare was one that came up a lot. It’s like, you download the app, and it connects you with people who need stuff hauled around. Seemed pretty straightforward. Also heard about uShip, which is more of a marketplace for finding transport work. You basically bid on jobs, I think.
I also found out about these things called “Last Mile Delivery Services” – Bungii, Curri, Roadie, Frayt, and a bunch more. Apparently, they’re good for folks with trucks because they often have bigger jobs on their apps.
Here’s what I did, step-by-step:
- Checked out job sites: I spent a good chunk of time on Indeed, just browsing through what was available.
- Downloaded some apps: I got GoShare and a couple of others on my phone to see how they worked.
- Looked into uShip: This one seemed a bit more complicated, but I gave it a shot.
- Explored Last Mile Services: Read up on those delivery services, like Bungii and Frayt.
But here’s the kicker: I learned that even though there are a lot of these jobs out there, it’s not always easy to just jump in. A lot of companies want you to have experience. I guess it makes sense, but it’s a bit of a hurdle when you’re just starting out.
Anyway, I decided to start small. I helped Mr. Johnson with his move, and then I put up a little ad on a local online board offering hauling services. Figured I’d see what happens. It’s not a gold mine yet, but I’ve had a few people call. Mostly small stuff, like taking junk to the dump or moving furniture.
It’s definitely a learning process. You gotta figure out pricing, how to deal with different types of loads, and all that. But it’s kinda cool, you know? Using my truck to make a little extra cash and help people out. We’ll see how it goes. I’ll keep you guys posted!
