I’ve always been into classic cars, especially SUVs. There’s just something about their ruggedness and timeless design that really gets me. So, I finally decided to take the plunge and buy one for myself. It was a journey, let me tell you!

First thing I did was hit the internet. I spent hours browsing different websites, trying to get a feel for what was out there and what I could afford. I checked out places like and Hemmings. These sites are pretty cool, they had a ton of listings and some helpful info for buyers. I mean, Hemmings is like the encyclopedia for classic car fans, right? Lots of good articles and stuff on there.
I also looked at general car sale sites like eBay, just to see what kind of deals I could find. Honestly, it was overwhelming at first. There were so many options, and I didn’t really know where to start. I even stumbled upon some facts like the rarity of the 1971 Hemi Cuda convertible. Imagine owning one of those! They call it the Holy Grail of muscle cars, but yeah, a bit out of my budget.
After a while, I realized I needed to narrow down my search. So I started looking for specific models that caught my eye. One that I was interested in was the classic Land Rover Range Rover. I found a few listings on Auto Trader, and they seemed pretty promising.
Scoping Out the Cars in Person
But you can only do so much online, right? I knew I had to go see some of these cars in person. So I started making calls and setting up appointments with sellers. I drove all over the place, checking out different SUVs. One place I went to was Classicwise Ltd in Newark. They had a decent inventory, and I got to see a few different models up close. It was cool to get a real feel for the size and condition of the cars.
I also learned that if a car is at least 25 years old, it might qualify for Classic License Plates. I mean, who wouldn’t want those? It is just a bummer that you can’t get them for every old car.
I saw some good ones, and some not-so-good ones. Some were in great shape, but others needed a lot of work. And let me tell you, the prices were all over the place! I found a 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback – S Code and thought it was a dream, but the price tag brought me back to reality.
Finally Found “The One”
But I didn’t give up. I kept looking, and eventually, I found it – a beautiful classic Mercedes-Benz SUV in great condition. The seller was a private owner, and we hit it off right away. We talked about the car’s history, and he told me all about the work he had done on it. I took it for a test drive, and it was perfect. I knew I had to have it.
We negotiated a price, and I ended up getting a pretty good deal. I was so excited! I drove it home, and I couldn’t stop smiling. It was such a great feeling to finally own a classic SUV. Since then, I’ve been driving it all over, and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it. It’s been a lot of work, but it’s been totally worth it. I love my classic SUV, and I’m so glad I went through this whole process to get it.
If you’re thinking about buying a classic car, my advice is to do your research, be patient, and don’t be afraid to walk away from a deal if it doesn’t feel right. It’s a big decision, but it can be so rewarding. Just be prepared to put in some time and effort, and you’ll find the perfect car for you!
