Well, let me tell ya ’bout them 1963 International pickup trucks. Back in the day, these things were everywhere! Not fancy like them cars today, no sir. Just good, solid trucks for gettin’ work done.
What’s a 1963 International Pickup Anyway?
International, that was the name, like Ford or Chevy, ya know? They made all sorts of trucks and farm equipment. This ’63 pickup, well, it was a workhorse. Farmers used ’em, builders used ’em, everybody used ’em. They weren’t pretty, but they were tough as nails.
You see, back then, we didn’t have all this fancy stuff. No power steering, no air conditioning, none of that. Just a steering wheel, some pedals, and a big ol’ engine. And that engine, let me tell ya, it could pull a house down! Some of them had V8s, I think they called ’em. Powerful things, they were.
How Much Does One Cost Now?
Now, if you want one of these old trucks today, well, it ain’t gonna be cheap. Not like when they were new, that’s for sure. I heard tell they go for over ten thousand dollars, sometimes more, if they’re in good shape. That’s a lot of money for an old truck, if you ask me.
- Good condition? Gonna cost ya more!
- Average shape? Maybe a little less, but still pricey.
- Just a rusty hunk of junk? Well, even those ain’t free, you know. People fix ’em up, make ’em all shiny and new again.
I saw one the other day, all fixed up, paint gleamin’ in the sun. Looked like it just rolled off the factory floor. Brought back memories, let me tell ya. My old man had one just like it, hauled hay and chickens and everything else you could imagine.
The Engine and Transmission – The Guts of the Truck
They say some of them 1963 Internationals had a 304 V8 engine. Big and strong, that’s what it was. And the transmission, some of ’em were three-speed manuals. You had to shift gears yourself, none of that automatic stuff. It took some gettin’ used to, but once you got the hang of it, it was easy as pie.
And that rear axle, 4.09 they called it. I don’t know what all them numbers mean, but I know it made the truck powerful. You could haul a load of lumber up a hill without even breakin’ a sweat.
Finding a 1963 International Pickup Today
Now, where do you find one of these trucks today? Well, you ain’t gonna see ’em sittin’ on a dealer’s lot, that’s for sure. You gotta look around. Maybe in an old barn, or a farmer’s field. Sometimes you see ’em advertised online, on them computer thingamajigs. eBay, they call it, or somethin’ like that. They got all sorts of stuff on there, even old trucks.
Why People Still Love ‘Em
So why do people still want these old trucks? Well, they’re simple, that’s one thing. Easy to work on, too. You don’t need a fancy computer to fix ’em, just a wrench and a little elbow grease. And they got character, somethin’ you don’t see in them new trucks. They remind folks of a simpler time, I guess. When hard work was somethin’ to be proud of, and a truck was just a truck, not a status symbol.
Keeping ‘Em Running

Keepin’ one of these old trucks running takes some work, though. You gotta grease it, change the oil, and fix things when they break. But that’s part of the fun, ya know? Gettin’ your hands dirty, makin’ somethin’ old new again. It’s a good feelin’, let me tell ya.
So, if you see an old 1963 International pickup truck, take a good look. It might not be pretty, but it’s got a story to tell. A story of hard work, and simpler times. And that’s somethin’ worth rememberin’, don’t you think?
International trucks compared to other trucks
Compared to other trucks at that time, well, they were workhorses, like I said. Chevy and Ford, they made good trucks too, but the International was known for being tough and reliable. Farmers liked ’em, builders liked ’em, anybody who needed a truck that could handle a hard day’s work liked ’em. They weren’t as fancy as some of the others, maybe, but they got the job done.
