Okay, so I’ve been meaning to upgrade the mirrors on my old pickup for a while now. The factory ones were just…blah. Small, not great visibility, and honestly, kinda ugly. I wanted something that looked tougher and gave me a better view of what’s going on around me, especially when towing.

First, I spent some time poking around online, looking at different styles. There are so many options! I considered the extendable towing mirrors, but ultimately decided on a set of slightly larger, fixed-position mirrors with a black, textured finish. They just seemed like a good balance of style and function for what I need.
The Installation Process
Once the mirrors arrived, I blocked out a Saturday afternoon to get them installed. I’m no mechanic, but I’m pretty handy, and I figured this was something I could tackle myself.
- I started by carefully removing the interior door panel on the driver’s side. This was probably the trickiest part, just because I didn’t want to break any of those little plastic clips. Lots of gentle prying with a trim tool!
- The old mirror, and gently pulled it away from the door.
- Next, I unplugged the wiring harness for the old mirror.
- Then, I grabbed the new mirror and plugged in the wiring. Pretty straightforward.
- I carefully lined up the new mirror with the mounting holes and bolted it into place.
- Finally, I re-attached the door panel, making sure all those clips snapped back in securely.
The passenger side was basically the same process. I repeated all the steps, and honestly, it went even faster the second time around. I think the whole thing took me maybe two hours, including a couple of breaks to grab a drink and check my phone.
The difference is night and day! The new mirrors look way better, and I can actually see what’s behind me now. I’m really happy with how this project turned out. It was a relatively easy upgrade that made a big impact on both the look and functionality of my truck. Feels good to do these things yourself, you know?
