That got me curious about what General Motors was up to with their SUV lineup. It was neat to see they were still pushing out new stuff.
Then, I started looking at the used market, because, let’s be honest, a brand-new SUV can be a bit pricey. I came across a bunch of Chevrolet Colorado listings. I even found one from 2006! It made me think about how many miles those vehicles have probably seen. You can tell they are built to last, seeing them still being driven.
But it wasn’t just about the older models. I saw a listing for a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT, all shiny and new, with a 2.7L I4 Turbocharged engine. The description mentioned it was a Sterling Gray Metallic, which sounded pretty cool. I got to the dealership and test-drove it. That powerful engine felt incredible on the road! It handled smoothly, and the interior was super comfy. I was seriously tempted to get it right then and there.
I also checked out some Chevrolet Bolt EUVs. I found one 2023 model at a dealer with a price tag that made my wallet a bit nervous. Even so, I took one of them out for a spin. It was all electric, which was a new experience for me. It was zippy and quiet—different from what I was used to. It felt really modern, with all the high-tech gadgets and screens. I also did not know how to feel about not having to stop at a gas station.
For a bit of fun, I even looked at some Chevrolet Camaro Convertibles. I mean, who doesn’t dream of cruising in a convertible at least once? There were a bunch of used ones for sale. I went to a dealer and test-drove one just for kicks. The wind in my hair, the roar of the engine… it was a blast! But it wasn’t exactly what I needed for my practical purposes.
My Choice
After all that, I had a lot to think about. I saw an article that mentioned picking cars based on a “mixed bag of needs and preferences,” and that’s exactly what I was doing. I wanted something that was good for commuting but also ready for an adventure.

It had enough space, drove well, and didn’t break the bank. Plus, it’s got a good reputation for reliability. I made a list comparing all the cars I saw, the price, and the gas mileage. It came down to how much I would be saving and how much I enjoyed the ride of the cars I drove. I ended up going with my gut feeling of the Chevrolet Equinox.
