Oh boy, let me tell you about my adventure with the Bremerton Sports Car Club. I’ve always been a bit of a car nut, but I’d never really taken the plunge into any kind of organized racing or driving events.

So, the first thing I did was to look up their schedule online. I saw that they were holding a “Novice School” at the Bremerton Motorsports Park, which sounded perfect for a beginner like me. Sounded like it was designed for people who had never done this kind of thing before.
It said that the price of entry even included a BSCC membership for the rest of the season, which seemed like a pretty sweet deal.
I signed up for the Novice School right away. I was a little nervous, to be honest. I mean, I’ve always considered myself a decent driver, but I knew that autocross was a whole different ball game.
When the day of the Novice School finally arrived, I made my way to the Bremerton Motorsports Park. I have to say I found that the people there were incredibly welcoming and friendly. There were a bunch of other newbies like me, all eager to learn.
The instructors were super knowledgeable and patient. They started us off with the basics – explaining things like vehicle dynamics, weight transfer, and the importance of looking ahead.
- We spent the morning doing various exercises, like slaloms, figure-eights, and skidpad practice. It was definitely challenging, but also a ton of fun. I could feel myself getting a better sense of how my car handled at the limit.
- In the afternoon, they set up a mini-autocross course for us to try. That was the real test! It was exhilarating to put everything we had learned into practice, trying to navigate the course as quickly and smoothly as possible.
I have to admit, I spun out a couple of times, but hey, that’s part of the learning process, right? By the end of the day, I felt like I had a much better understanding of autocross and a newfound appreciation for the skill involved.
The best part was that as part of the Novice School, I got next year’s membership for BSCC and even a coupon for free registration at one of their regular events. And guess what? They even threw in a free lunch! Not only did I get a whole day of instruction but also some pretty sweet perks. It felt like I was already part of the club.
I’m definitely hooked now. I can’t wait to go to more events and keep improving my driving skills. If you’re in the Bremerton area and you’re into cars, I highly recommend checking out the Bremerton Sports Car Club. It’s a blast!
