Okay, so I’ve been driving a Ford Escape for a while, and my neighbor just got a Ford Edge. We were chatting, and the question popped up: which one’s actually bigger? I got curious, so I decided to do a little digging and measuring myself.

The First Look
Just looking at them side-by-side in our driveways, the Edge seemed a bit wider and longer. The Escape looks a little more compact, you know? But looks can be deceiving, so I wanted hard numbers.
Tape Measure Time!
First, I grabbed my trusty tape measure. I started with the overall length. I stretched that tape from the front bumper all the way to the back of my Escape, then did the same for my neighbor’s Edge.
- My Escape: It came out to be around, let’s say, 180 inches, give or take. I had to hold the tape and eyeball it a bit, so it’s not super precise, but a good ballpark.
- Neighbor’s Edge: This one measured noticeably longer, something in the neighborhood of 188 inches. Again, not lab-accurate, but it confirmed my visual impression.
Width and Height
Next up, width. I measured across the widest part, not including the mirrors.
- Escape Width: somewhere around 72 inches.
- Edge Width: closer to 76 inches. Definitely wider!
For the height, I measured from the ground to the highest point of the roof (not including any roof racks).
- Escape and Edge Height:It’s roughly the same.
Inside Space – The Real Test
Of course, exterior size isn’t everything. I wanted to see how much usable space each SUV had. I started by opening the back hatch and measuring the cargo area. I measured the width, depth, and height of the cargo space in both cars.
- Escape cargo: Has enough room for basic use.
- Edge cargo: Has more room than Escape.
I also tried sitting in the back seats of both. The Edge definitely felt roomier in terms of legroom and shoulder room. The Escape’s back seat is fine, but the Edge felt noticeably more spacious.
The Final Verdict
After all my measuring and comparing, it’s pretty clear: the Ford Edge is bigger than the Ford Escape. It’s longer, wider, and has more cargo space and passenger room. The Escape is still a decent size, but if you need that extra space, the Edge is the winner. It wasn’t a scientific test, but it gave me a good practical understanding of the size difference!
