Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my pickup truck lately, and I gotta say, one thing that’s been bugging me is getting stuff in and out of the bed. I ain’t getting any younger, you know? So, I started looking into these tailgate steps.

I mean, sure, I could just jump up there, but after a long day of work, my knees aren’t exactly thrilled about that idea. Plus, it’s not the safest thing, especially when I’m carrying heavy stuff. So, I figured, why not make my life a bit easier?
First, I did what everyone does – I started looking around online, checking out different types of tailgate steps. There are a bunch of them out there, some that fold up, some that slide out, some that are basically a mini ladder. It was a lot to take in! I watched a few videos of guys testing them out, seeing how easy they were to install and use.
After a bit of digging, I decided to go with one that mounts on the tailgate itself and folds up when you’re not using it. Seemed like the best option for me, didn’t want anything too bulky or complicated.
Ordered it Up
Ordered it online, and it showed up a few days later. The box was a little beat up, but everything inside seemed fine. Came with all the hardware and instructions. Now, I’m no mechanic, but I’m pretty handy. Still, I was a little nervous about drilling into my tailgate.
Installation Time
I laid everything out, read through the instructions a couple of times, and got to work. I measured like five times to make sure I was putting it in the right spot. Used some masking tape on the tailgate to protect the paint. Took a deep breath, and started drilling. That was the hardest part, not gonna lie. I definitely double-checked my measurements before each hole.
- Got the bracket mounted, no problem.
- Attached the steps.
- Tested the folding mechanism.
Worked like a charm!
Living That Easy Life
It took me maybe an hour total, but honestly, it’s been a game-changer. Getting stuff in and out of the truck bed is so much easier now. I can just walk right up, no more straining or risking a fall. Even my wife uses it sometimes, and she’s usually scared of anything truck-related.
So yeah, if you’re on the fence about getting tailgate steps for your pickup, I’d say go for it. It’s one of those things you don’t think you need until you have it, and then you wonder how you ever lived without it. Trust me, your back and knees will thank you.
