Alright, let’s talk about these SUV liftgate tents, you know, those things you stick on the back of your car when you go out camping. I’ve seen ’em around, folks using them, looks kinda handy, I reckon.

What are these SUV tent things anyway? Well, from what I gather, they’re like regular tents, but instead of putting them on the ground all by themselves, you hook ’em up to the back of your SUV. Makes a sort of extra room, ya know? Like a little porch or somethin’. Handy if you got a bunch of stuff or if it starts rainin’, I guess.
Now, I ain’t no expert, but I hear tell there’s all sorts of different kinds. Some are big, some are small, some are fancy, some ain’t. You gotta figure out what you need, I suppose. Like, if you got a big family, you’ll need a big tent, right? And if you’re just goin’ out by yourself, well, a small one will do. Makes sense, don’t it?
- Big ones for big families.
- Little ones for just you.
- Some with all the bells and whistles, some plain and simple.
Why would you even want one of these things? Well, like I said, it’s like havin’ an extra room. You can put your chairs in there, your coolers, all that junk you lug around when you go camping. Keeps it outta the weather, keeps it outta the dirt. And if you got kids, well, it gives ’em a place to play, I suppose, without gettin’ eaten alive by mosquitoes.
And speaking of weather, that’s another good reason to have one. If it starts rainin’, you ain’t gotta huddle up in the car. You got that tent, you can sit in there, play some cards, wait it out. Or if it’s real sunny, it gives you a bit of shade. Sun can be brutal, ya know.
Setting it up, that’s the real question, ain’t it? I hear some of ’em are easy as pie, just pop ’em up and you’re done. Others, well, they’re a bit more complicated, like puttin’ together one of them puzzles with a thousand pieces. If you ain’t too handy, you might wanna get one of the easy ones. Ain’t nobody got time for fussin’ around with a complicated tent when you’re tryin’ to relax.
Now, where do you get one of these contraptions? I reckon you can find ’em online, just about everything’s online these days. Or you could go to one of them big stores that sells outdoor stuff. You know the kind, they got everything from fishin’ rods to guns to fancy coolers. Just ask around, somebody’ll point you in the right direction.
And how much do they cost? Well, that depends. Like I said, some are fancy, some ain’t. The fancy ones, they’ll cost you a pretty penny, I bet. The simple ones, they’re cheaper. You gotta figure out what you can afford, what you’re willin’ to spend. Camping ain’t supposed to break the bank, after all.
A few things to keep in mind when you’re lookin’ at these tents. You want somethin’ sturdy, somethin’ that ain’t gonna fall apart the first time the wind blows. And you want somethin’ that’s easy to clean, ’cause let’s face it, things get dirty when you’re out in the woods. And make sure it fits your car, that’s important. You don’t wanna get it home and find out it’s too big or too small.
And one last thing, don’t forget the bug spray! Tents are great and all, but they ain’t gonna keep out all them critters. Mosquitoes, flies, ticks, you name it, they’re all out there waitin’ to bite ya. So spray yourself good, spray the tent, spray everything. Better safe than sorry, I always say.
So, there you have it, my two cents on these SUV liftgate tents. They seem like a good idea, handy to have if you like to go camping. Just do your research, figure out what you need, and don’t spend more than you can afford. And for goodness sake, remember the bug spray!
Safety first when you are using car tent. Make sure your car parking on the flat ground and the handbrake must * remember always check the weather report before you going out. If strong wind coming, you better not use the tent.
Some good brands like Big Agnes, MSR, REI, they are making good quality camping stuff. If you have money you can choose those big names’ products. But some cheap one may work too, just check carefully before you paid the money.
There are so many types of tent in market. You can get those put on the car roof, or you can get those connect to you car trunk. Some small car can also use the car tent, but you need check the car load bearing limit first. Don’t overload your car.
When you choose a tent, check if it has good air circulation design. It will be very helpful in hot weather. And easy to setup tent is important too. Nobody wants to spend hours to set up a tent when you are tried after long drive.
