Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get a back rack for my pickup truck for a while now. I finally decided to pull the trigger and do it. Let me tell you, it wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be.

First, I started looking around online to see what my options were. There are tons of different brands and styles out there. I read some reviews and watched a few videos, but honestly, it was a bit overwhelming. I mean, the one of the websites said, “Our experts already compared millions of reviews, so you don’t have to.” How crazy is that?
After a few days of that, I decided to narrow it down to a couple of brands that seemed to be pretty popular and reliable. BACKRACK kept coming up, which makes sense, apparently they’re like the big name in this whole truck rack thing. They even call them “headache racks.” I guess it’s to protect your cab. Anyway, I started focusing on their stuff.
So then I had to figure out which specific rack would fit my truck. It’s not a one-size-fits-all kind of deal, you know? One of the websites said that If it is the same make and model no problem. But that’s not always the case, and I have changed trucks. I measured my truck bed probably like five times just to be sure. I even called a local shop that sells them to double-check and make sure I was getting the right one. They were helpful, thankfully.
- Measured my truck bed (multiple times!)
- Called a local shop to confirm fit
- Ordered the rack online
Once I finally ordered the thing, it arrived a few days later. The box was huge! I opened it up, and of course, there are a million parts and pieces. The instructions were okay, but I ended up watching a couple more videos online just to make sure I was doing it right.
Getting it installed was a bit of a pain, not gonna lie. I managed to do it myself, but it took me most of the afternoon. Wrestled with some bolts, scratched my truck a little (oops), but eventually, I got it on there.
Finally Done!
And you know what? It looks pretty darn good. And it feels solid, like it’s not going anywhere. I’m definitely glad I went through the trouble. Now I can haul stuff without worrying about it flying out or messing up my back window. If you’re thinking about getting one, just be prepared for a little bit of work. But it’s worth it in the end, at least for me.
