Alright, let’s talk about these American sports car concepts, you know, the kind they show off at them big city car shows. I ain’t no fancy engineer or nothin’, just an old woman who’s seen a car or two in her day. But I can tell ya what I see, and what I think folks want.

First off, them fellas keep talkin’ ’bout electric cars. Electric, electric, electric! That’s all ya hear nowadays. They say it’s good for the air and all, which I guess is a good thing. But let me tell ya, an electric car gotta be more than just quiet. It needs to have some oomph, ya know? Like that Corvette they keep talkin’ about.
- Now, the Corvette, that’s a real American car. Always been about that big ol’ engine, makin’ that roar. But now they wanna make it electric? Well, okay, but it better be fast!
- I heard tell they’re thinkin’ about makin’ it all fancy and futuristic. That’s all well and good, but don’t go forgettin’ what makes a Corvette a Corvette. It gotta look mean, it gotta sound… well, maybe it won’t sound the same, but it gotta feel mean.
They say the cars of the future gonna drive themselves. Can ya believe that? No driver! I guess that’s alright for them city folks who are always in a hurry, but out here in the country, we like to be in control. We like to feel the road under our wheels, you know? But I reckon if it makes things safer, then maybe it ain’t so bad. And if it gives folks more time to do other things, like spendin’ time with their families or workin’ on the farm, then that’s a good thing too.
Them fancy car makers, like that Rolls-Royce fella, they’re talkin’ about cars that look like sculptures. Sculptures! Can you imagine? They say each car gonna be special, like a work of art. Well, I ain’t never seen a sculpture that could take me to the grocery store, but I guess if folks got the money to spend, they can buy whatever they want. They’re sayin’ these cars gonna cost a pretty penny, millions even! That’s more money than I’ve seen in my whole life! But hey, if it’s what folks want, then who am I to judge?
But here’s what I think. An American sports car, it needs to be more than just fancy looks and fancy gadgets. It needs to be tough, reliable, and it needs to make you feel somethin’. It needs to have some power, whether it comes from gasoline or electricity. And it needs to be something you can be proud of. Something you can show off to your neighbors and say, “Yep, that’s my American sports car.”
They’re talkin’ about these cars bein’ all connected, too. You know, talkin’ to each other, talkin’ to the road, talkin’ to the internet. I don’t know much about all that computer stuff, but if it helps me get where I’m goin’ without gettin’ lost, then I guess it’s alright. Just as long as it don’t start tellin’ me what to do! I’m too old to be takin’ orders from a car, I tell ya.
So, what’s the future of the American sports car concept? Well, I reckon it’s gonna be electric, it’s gonna be fancy, and it’s gonna be connected. But most importantly, it needs to be American. It needs to have that spirit of freedom and adventure that makes this country so great. It needs to be a car that you can hop in and drive across the country, with the windows down and the radio blarin’. And it needs to be a car that makes you feel alive.
Now, I may be just an old woman, but I know what I like. And I like a car with some guts and some personality. A car that ain’t afraid to get a little dirty. A car that’ll take you wherever you wanna go. And that’s what I think an American sports car should be all about.
