Okay, so I’ve been riding for a while now, and I’ve always been a “gear up” kind of guy. Recently, I started looking into these abrasion-resistant motorcycle shirts. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be protected and comfortable, right? So I decided to dive in and see what the hype was all about.

First, I hit up my local motorcycle gear shop. I wanted to feel the materials and try some on. The guy there showed me a few options, explaining that they’re made with some special stuff, like this DuPont™ Kevlar or something. Sounded fancy. He said it’s for when you, you know, take a tumble and slide. I tried a few, and they felt pretty good, kinda like regular shirts but a bit thicker.
Testing
- I wore the shirts on a few short rides, just around town. Felt okay, no problems there. The shirts are pretty breathable, which is a plus. Not as breezy as a t-shirt, but hey, safety first, right?
- Then, I took them on a longer ride, a couple of hours on the highway. Still comfy. Even on a warmer day, I didn’t feel like I was baking in an oven.
- Now, the real test, I decided to simulate a little “slide” in a safe environment, of course. Don’t try this at home, kids! I basically just dragged a piece of the shirt material across some rough asphalt. I gotta say, it held up pretty well. It did scuff up, but it didn’t tear through like a regular shirt would. I tried this with a couple of different shirts I bought, and they all did pretty good. This gave me a little more confidence in the whole abrasion-resistant thing.
I also checked out a few online forums and reviews. Seems like people generally like these shirts. Some folks said they’ve actually been in minor accidents wearing them and came out with just some scrapes instead of serious road rash.
So, after all that, what do I think? These motorcycle shirts with abrasion resistance, they’re a pretty good idea. I mean, they’re not gonna replace a full leather jacket, but they offer a decent level of protection, especially for casual rides. They’re comfortable, they breathe, and they seem to do what they’re supposed to do. I’ll definitely keep wearing them. I even got a few in different colors because, why not look good while being safe, right?
And, honestly, it’s just nice to know you’ve got that extra layer of protection when you’re out there on two wheels. You never know what can happen, right? It’s all about staying safe and enjoying the ride.
