Alright, so, I’ve been messing around with these old British sports cars lately, and it’s been a wild ride. I started with zero knowledge, just a vague idea that I wanted to get my hands dirty with some classic beauties.

I started digging around, checking out what’s out there. I saw those fancy Aston Martin DB5s, you know, the James Bond cars, and thought, “Yeah, maybe one day.” Then there were those sleek Jaguar XKEs that just scream style. I even looked at those cute little Mini Coopers, which seemed more in my league, price-wise.
I found this online community, no dealers, just a bunch of folks like me who love cars. It felt like a safe space to learn and ask dumb questions. They have these auctions, which was kinda cool, but also kinda scary. I mean, bidding on a car? That’s a big step! I did register as a bidder, just to see how it all worked, but I wasn’t ready to buy yet. There was also an option for a “Buy now” option but that seemed more expensive, also they have a make offer option but I didn’t even try that since I had a rough idea what the cars I wanted were worth.
Then I stumbled upon this massive collection of old cars, like, a goldmine! There were Corvettes, Mustangs, Camaros, you name it. And the prices? Dirt cheap. These were project cars, meaning they needed work, a lot of work. But that’s what I wanted, a project, something I could really dive into.
I ended up grabbing a Triumph TR6. It was a bit rough around the edges, but I saw potential. I spent weeks just cleaning it, figuring out what worked and what didn’t. It was tough, no doubt. Lots of late nights in the garage, covered in grease, but it was satisfying. I realized that I like the process of restoring more than driving.
Slowly but surely, I started to bring it back to life. The engine started purring, the bodywork started to shine, and I felt like a proud dad. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine. And the best part? I did it all myself, well, with a little help from my new online friends.
I’m not a pro. It was hard work and there were lots of times I wanted to give up. But I didn’t. I think it’s an achievement that I will be proud of for the rest of my life. And now I’m going to find another car to start working on!
