Okay, here’s the blog post about riding in the back of a pickup truck:

So, I did something today that I hadn’t done in ages – rode in the back of a pickup truck. My buddy, Mark, called me up and asked if I wanted to help him pick up some lumber for a shed he’s building. Mark’s got this old Chevy, and since we had to get a bunch of 8-foot boards, the bed was the only way to go.
I hopped in, and off we went. The first thing I noticed was the wind. Man, it whips around back there! I had to hold onto my hat to keep it from flying off. We hit the highway, and that’s when it got really interesting.
- Going at highway speeds, you feel every single bump, every little dip in the road. It’s a wild ride, let me tell you.
- And the noise! Between the wind and the engine, it’s a full-on symphony of chaos.
- You also get a pretty good view of everything around you.
We got to the lumber yard, loaded up the truck bed, and made sure to tie everything down real good. Mark’s a stickler for that, thankfully. He always says, “If you don’t want to lose it, tie it down!”. Good advice, if you ask me.
The ride back was pretty much the same, but with the added weight of the wood, the truck felt a bit more grounded. Still bumpy, still windy, still loud, but a bit more solid, you know?
We got back to Mark’s place, unloaded the lumber, and I gotta say, it felt good to be back on solid ground.
My takeaway?
Riding in the back of a pickup is definitely an experience. It’s not the most comfortable thing in the world, and I wouldn’t recommend it for a long trip. Plus, I’m pretty sure it’s not the safest thing to do. But for a short haul, with a buddy, on a sunny day? It’s a bit of an adventure, I’ll give it that. Would I do it again? Maybe. It’s not something I’d seek out, but if the situation called for it, and it was the only option, I wouldn’t say no. It’s definitely a reminder of simpler times, you know? And honestly I don’t think it’s a good idea.
