Okay, guys, let’s talk about something that’s been on my mind for a while – how to organize tools in my pickup truck. I mean, I love my truck, but it was turning into a total mess. Tools everywhere, couldn’t find a darn thing when I needed it. So, I decided to do something about it and I wanted to share it with you. It is not a big problem but it is really annoying.

First thing I did was take everything out. And I mean everything. I laid it all out on the driveway and it was kind of embarrassing how much stuff I had crammed in there. I got rid of a bunch of junk I didn’t need, and then I started thinking about how to put it all back in a way that made sense.
I knew I didn’t want those factory toolboxes, they just take up too much space, and honestly, they’re not that great. I’m not a big fan of the cases that power tools come in, you know. So, I started looking at other options. Drawers seemed like a good idea, but I didn’t want to spend a fortune. I also need the most of the space in my truck bed to carry large items. So I needed to figure out how to store my daily tools without taking the space in the truck bed.
I did some brainstorming and came up with a plan. I decided to build some custom storage solutions that would fit under the seats and in the little spaces behind the seats. I used some scrap wood I had lying around and put together a few simple boxes. Nothing fancy, but they did the job.
For the small stuff, like screws, nails, and other odds and ends, I found some plastic containers with dividers. I labeled each one so I could easily see what was inside. I also picked up some of those magnetic strips, you know the ones you use in the kitchen for knives? Those are great for holding wrenches and other metal tools. Very convenient and useful. For the medium size tools, like hammer and pliers, I used some simple trays to store them in the center. And some J-hook which makes it easier for installing. I highly recommend that you buy these J-hooks.
- First, I cleared out all the tools and junk from my truck.
- Then, I got rid of anything I didn’t need anymore.
- I decided to build my own storage instead of buying expensive pre-made options.
- I used scrap wood to make custom boxes for under and behind the seats.
- I used plastic containers with dividers for small items and labeled them.
- Magnetic strips were used to hold metal tools like wrenches.
- Finally, I put everything back in an organized way.
It took me a weekend to get it all done, but it was totally worth it. Now, I can find everything I need in seconds, and my truck bed is actually usable again. It’s not perfect, but it’s a heck of a lot better than it was. If you’re struggling with tool storage in your truck, I hope my little project gives you some ideas. It’s not that hard, and it makes a huge difference!
Oh, one more thing. I found that it’s best to put the heaviest stuff on the bottom and the lighter stuff on top. Just makes sense, right? Alright, that’s all I’ve got for now. Hope this helps someone out there!
