Okay, so, today I was messing around with a crossword puzzle, you know, just killing time. And I stumbled upon this clue: “British sports cars: Abbr.” It got me thinking, how many times have I seen this kind of clue before? And how do I usually go about solving it?

So I started my little quest. I grabbed my phone and started googling “British sports cars: Abbr. crossword clue”. I got a bunch of different results. A lot of them were these crossword solver sites, listing all sorts of answers. Seems like this clue pops up a lot, in different puzzles, even the NY Times one! From what I saw, there were like 30 or 40 possible answers.
I looked at a few of these sites. They had answers sorted by how many letters, which is pretty handy. Some had 3-letter answers, some had 7-letter ones. Then I started thinking about actual British sports car brands, the ones I could remember off the top of my head.
The Research
- First, I checked out a couple of sites that had this specific clue.
- They were all about solving crosswords.
- There were many possible answers, like 30 or 40.
Then, just to make sure I wasn’t missing anything, I did another search for just “British sports cars”. That brought up a whole list of brands, some I knew, some I didn’t. I jotted down a few that seemed like they might fit, especially the ones that people usually shorten to an abbreviation.
Then, I went back to my puzzle. I counted the empty squares to see how many letters I needed. It was a three-letter word. I looked at my list of possible brands and their abbreviations. And then, bam, I saw it. This is a three-letter word for a British sports car!
So, yeah, that’s how I ended up solving that clue. It was a fun little journey, digging through different websites and racking my brain for car brands. Crosswords, man, they’re not just about knowing words, it’s about knowing how to find the words you don’t know, too!
