Alright, folks, gather ’round. Today, I wanna talk about something that’s been bugging me for a while – getting in and out of my pickup truck. I’m not getting any younger, and honestly, it’s a bit of a climb. So, I decided to finally do something about it and install some side steps.

First off, I did a bit of window shopping online, just to see what’s out there. I mean, there’s a ton of options, right? I saw names like N-Fab, Carr, Bully… you name it. Some looked fancy, some looked tough, and some were just plain weird. And it seemed like everyone and their grandma had an opinion on which ones were the best. It was a bit overwhelming, to be honest.
Then I stumbled upon something called a “rear-mounted step” – the Bestop TrekStep. Sounded interesting, but I wasn’t entirely sold. I mean, I wanted something on the side, not just at the back. After talking about it with other friends I have, I decided not to go with that.
So, I kept digging. I read some articles, watched a few videos where people are installing some of this and some of that, and basically just tried to soak up as much info as I could. I learned that some steps are better for lifted trucks, some are better for lower trucks, and some are just a pain in the butt to install.
- Decided what I needed. I don’t have a lifted truck, so I didn’t need anything too crazy. Just something simple, sturdy, and easy to use.
- Read a bunch of reviews. Like I said, everyone’s got an opinion. But I figured if enough people said something was good (or bad), it was probably worth paying attention to.
- Picked a set. After all that, I finally settled on a set of Bully BBS-1103 side steps. They seemed to have good reviews and they fit my truck, so that was that.
- Ordered them up. Easy peasy. Just a few clicks and they were on their way.
- Installed them. Okay, this was the fun part. The instructions were pretty straightforward, thankfully. I’m no mechanic, but I managed to get them on without too much trouble. A few bolts here, a few brackets there, and boom – done. Although I will admit, I was sweating for a minute when I thought I messed up with the installation.
Here’s the lowdown on what I did:
And you know what? They’re great! It’s so much easier to get in and out of my truck now. I don’t have to do that awkward little jump-and-grab thing anymore. My knees are thanking me, my back is thanking me, and honestly, I’m just kicking myself for not doing this sooner. The Bully steps turned out to be a good choice – they’re solid, they look decent, and they do the job. My passengers are happy, I’m happy, and it’s just a win-win all around.
So, if you’re in the same boat as me, I highly recommend checking out some side steps for your truck. It’s a small change that makes a big difference. Just do your research, pick a set that fits your needs, and don’t be afraid to get your hands a little dirty. You won’t regret it!
