Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about them 1957 Ford pickup trucks. Folks are always lookin’ for ‘em, you know? I seen a whole bunch of ‘em in my day, back when they was just regular trucks, not some kinda fancy shmancy “classic.”

Now, you go lookin’ online, they callin’ ‘em all sorts of things. “Mild custom,” they say. “Collector,” they say. “Antique.” Shoot, back then, they was just trucks! Used ‘em for haulin’ hay, takin’ pigs to market, you name it. Nobody cared about no “ciD” or whatever that means. If it started, it worked, and that’s all that mattered.
I heard tell you can find these trucks for sale all over the place now. “*,” they call it. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Says they got ‘em from 1947 all the way to 1957. Prices startin’ low, they say. But you gotta watch out for them city slickers, tryin’ to pull a fast one on ya. They’ll slap some shiny paint on an old rust bucket and call it a “restored beauty.” Don’t you be fooled!
These fellers, they talk about “F100s.” That’s the kind most folks want, I reckon. They got the smaller ones too, I guess. And the big ones. But the F100, that’s the one you see most often in them pictures. Some got big engines, some got little ones. Some got four-wheel drive, some just got two. It all depends what you’re lookin’ for, I suppose.
I remember seein’ a fella drivin’ one through town, painted all bright red. Looked like a fire engine, it did. He was mighty proud of it, too. Wavin’ at everyone, grinnin’ like a possum eatin’ a persimmon. Guess that’s what happens when you got a fancy truck like that. Now, if it was me, I’d just want a good one for haulin’ stuff. Don’t need no fancy paint job or nothin’. Just a good strong engine and a bed big enough for my stuff.
- You gotta check the engine, make sure it runs good.
- Look at the body, see if it’s got too much rust.
- Kick the tires, make sure they ain’t worn thin.
And don’t forget to haggle on the price. These fellas tryin’ to sell these old trucks, they always start high. You gotta talk ‘em down, let ‘em know you ain’t no fool. Tell ‘em you seen better for cheaper, even if you ain’t. That’s how you get a good deal.
Prices you say? Well, I heard tell they start at a few hundred dollars, for somethin’ that needs a whole lotta work. But if you want a real nice one, all fixed up and purdy, you gonna pay a whole lot more. Thousands, maybe even tens of thousands! Can you believe that? For an old truck! Shoot, back in my day, you could buy a whole farm for that kinda money.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a 1957 Ford pickup truck for sale, you gotta do your homework. Don’t just jump at the first one you see. Look around, compare prices, and don’t be afraid to walk away if it don’t feel right. And for goodness sake, don’t let them city slickers talk you into payin’ too much. They think we country folk don’t know nothin’, but we ain’t as dumb as we look.
There’s lots of places to find these trucks, they say. “Classics on Autotrader,” another one of them fancy websites. They got all kinds, they say. Compact, mid-size, full-size, even four-wheel drive. Just gotta figure out what you want and how much you’re willin’ to spend. And remember, a pretty paint job don’t mean nothin’ if the engine ain’t no good.
Finding one near you is the best way, I reckon. You can go look it all around. Then you will know it is good enough. It will save lots of trouble in the long run. And if it all works good for you, grab it. Because someone else will. They are popular now, even for being so old. I remember when they were just old, but it seems like now that just makes them better.
So good luck to ya in your search. And if you do find a good one, take care of it. These old trucks, they ain’t makin’ ‘em anymore. They’re a piece of history, they are. And they deserve to be treated right.
