Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Fox Valley Sports Car Club. I ain’t no fancy writer, so I’ll just tell it like it is.
First off, these folks, they really like them cars, the sporty kind, you know? Them fast ones that go zoom zoom. They ain’t drivin’ no tractors, that’s for sure. They got this club, been around since 1957, long afore I even got my driver’s license, which, let me tell ya, was a while back. They’re up in Appleton, Wisconsin, which ain’t exactly the big city, but they sure do love their cars up there.
Now, what do they do? Mostly, they race ’em. But not like on them big racetracks you see on TV. They do this thing called “autocross,” which is like a small race course, usually in a big parking lot or somethin’. They set up cones, and you gotta drive real fast through ’em, tryin’ not to knock ’em over. Sounds like fun, if you’re into that kinda thing. I reckon it keeps them young fellas outta trouble, mostly.
They also do somethin’ called “rallycross,” which is kinda like autocross but on dirt or gravel. That sounds like a mess to me, all that dirt flyin’ everywhere, but I guess they like it. Boys will be boys, as they say. They got events all over the place, like Road America up in Plymouth. That’s a real fancy place, lots of land, and they let these car club folks zoom around on their property. They even got a Go Kart track there, sounds like a hoot.
- Autocross: Zoomin’ around cones in a parking lot.
- Rallycross: Zoomin’ around cones in the dirt.
- Events: They got ’em all over, like at Road America.
They seem real organized, these folks. They got a Facebook page and all, where they post about their events and such. I even saw they got a phone number you can call if you want to join or somethin’. Don’t ask me what it is, I ain’t writin’ it down. You can look it up yourself if you’re so inclined. They even got a website, somethin’ fancy like “*” if I recall right.
They had an event just this year, in 2024, the “Golden Sands Rallycross,” that sounds kinda fun, if you like gettin’ dirty. And they do these “Triple Crown AutoXXX Series” at Road America, which seems like a big deal to them. They’re always fixin’ up their cars, too, I hear. One fella was talkin’ ’bout changin’ his shocks and springs, tires, somethin’ called “Haldex,” and a bunch of other things I ain’t never heard of. Sounds expensive, but I guess if you love them cars, you don’t mind spendin’ the money.
They got a bunch of members, seems like. Always talkin’ about “membership,” you gotta pay to be in the club, I guess. But if you’re into them sporty cars and like racin’ ’em around cones, it might be worth it. I seen pictures of them cars, all shiny and colorful, some old, some new. They take good care of ’em, that’s for sure. Polish ’em up real nice, like they’re somethin’ precious.
So, that’s the lowdown on the Fox Valley Sports Car Club, as far as I can tell. They’re a bunch of folks who love them cars and like to drive ’em fast. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that, I suppose. Keeps ’em busy, and out of my hair, mostly. And that’s all that matters to an old lady like me.
