Well, let me tell ya ’bout them 1961 International pickup trucks. Them old trucks, they were somethin’ else, you know? Not like these fancy new things they got now. Back then, a truck was a truck, and it worked hard, just like us.

1961 International Pickup Trucks: Tough as Nails
I remember seein’ them 1961 Internationals around. Some folks called ’em IHCs, short for International Harvester Company, I think. They made all sorts of things, not just trucks. But them pickups, they were real popular.
You could get different kinds, you see. Some were the C-120, that was a ¾ ton, they said. Strong enough to haul pretty much anything you needed. Hay, wood, whatever. There were others too, like the B-110. And that Scout, that little feller, it was tough too but not as big as the pickups. Folks say it was good for gettin’ around, like the jeeps but I don’t know nothin’ ’bout that.
- Different Looks: Some had them regular headlights, side by side, you know? But some, they had them stacked headlights, one on top of the other. Looked kinda funny, but folks liked ’em. And the beds, well, some were long, some were short. Some even had them steps on the side, easier to get in and out, I guess. I saw one once, all beat up and the bed didn’t even match, but it was still chuggin’ along. Tough, like I said.
- Finding One Now: Lord, if you want one now, you gotta go lookin’. I hear they got websites and places that sell old cars. “*” they call it. They say you can find some there, but I ain’t never looked. Prices all over the place, too. Seen some fellers sellin’ ’em for a few thousand, and some for a whole lot more. Heard tell of one of them little Scouts sellin’ for sixty-three thousand dollars! Can you believe that? Musta been real purdy.
- Air Force Trucks: Now, this is somethin’ interesting. Some of them 1961 Internationals, they were used by the Air Force. Imagine that! Don’t know what they used ’em for, haulin’ stuff I reckon. But if you find one of them, it might be in good shape, or maybe all beat to heck, who knows? But it’s a piece of history, that’s for sure.
Them Internationals, they were built to last. They weren’t fancy, no sir. Just good, solid trucks. You could count on ’em to get the job done. I remember seein’ ’em on farms, carryin’ stuff to market, just workin’ hard every day. They was the workhorses, ya know? Not like these new trucks, all shiny and full of computers. Give me a good ol’ 1961 any day.
They say International Harvester, they made all sorts of trucks, big ones, small ones. And that the 1961 line was a pretty big deal, they sold a lot of them. And even back then, they was talkin’ about how they had the most complete truck line, more kinds than anyone else. They even had that Scout, which was like a little truck, but tough.
Nowadays, if you got one of them 1961s, you gotta take care of it. Parts ain’t easy to find, I hear. But there’s folks who love them old trucks. They fix ’em up, paint ’em all nice, and drive ’em around. Good for them, I say. It’s nice to see somethin’ old still kickin’. Reminds you of simpler times, when things weren’t so complicated.
And them prices, like I said, they can go sky high. Specially if it’s one of them rare ones, or if it’s in real good shape. There’s even places that tell you how much they’re worth, like they got a book or somethin’. Hagerty, I think they call it. They look at the year, the model, the condition, all that stuff, and tell you what it’s worth. It’s a whole ‘nother world now.
But me, I just remember them as good, reliable trucks. They weren’t fancy, but they got the job done. And that’s what mattered. So, if you ever see a 1961 International, take a good look. You’re lookin’ at a piece of history, a time when things were built to last.
