Well, let me tell ya ’bout this 1938 Chevy pickup truck. It ain’t like them fancy new cars you see today, no sir. This here truck, it’s got somethin’ special, somethin’ real.

What’s so great about a 1938 Chevy pickup truck, you ask? It’s a piece of history, that’s what it is. Back in them days, folks used trucks like this for everythin’. Farming, haulin’ stuff, gettin’ to town… you name it. This truck, it was a workhorse.
Now, I ain’t no fancy car expert, but I know what I like. And I like the way this truck looks. It’s got them big, round fenders and that strong, square body. They built ’em tough back then. No flimsy plastic like you see on them newfangled cars. This here’s steel, real steel. It can take a beatin’ and keep on goin’.
- Built strong, that’s what I say. Not like them delicate things they make now.
- Got that classic look. You know, the kind that makes you turn your head and say “Now, that’s a truck!”
I heard some folks like to fix these old trucks up, make ’em all shiny and new. That’s fine, I guess. But me, I like ’em a little rough around the edges. Shows character, you know? Like an old farmer’s hands, all weathered and strong.
Thinkin’ about gettin’ yourself a 1938 Chevy pickup? Well, you gotta know what you’re lookin’ for. Some folks like ’em original, just the way they came from the factory. Others like to soup ’em up, put in a bigger engine, fancy wheels. It’s all a matter of taste, I reckon.
One thing’s for sure, though: a ’38 Chevy pickup ain’t gonna drive like one of them new cars. It’s gonna be a little rougher, a little louder. But that’s part of the charm, ain’t it? You feel the road under you, hear the engine rumble. It’s like you’re connect to the truck, part of it.
I seen some fellas put in new engines in these old trucks. A Chevy 350, they call it. Says it gives it more power. I guess that’s alright if you want to go fast. But me, I ain’t in no hurry. I like to take things slow, enjoy the ride. Besides, that old engine, it’s got a sound all its own, a sound that takes you back in time.
And then there’s the inside. Simple, that’s the word. No fancy gadgets or computers. Just a bench seat, a steering wheel, and a few gauges. But that’s all you need, really. You ain’t drivin’ this truck to impress nobody. You’re drivin’ it because you love it, because it’s a part of history.
Restoration, Customization, What’s it All Mean? Well, some folks like to keep these old trucks lookin’ just like they did when they rolled off the assembly line. They call it “restoration.” They hunt down original parts, fix up the rust, and paint it the same color it was back then. It’s a lot of work, but it sure looks purdy when it’s done.
Then there’s “customization.” That’s when you make it your own. You might put in a different engine, change the wheels, paint it a wild color. It’s all about what you like. There ain’t no right or wrong way, as long as you’re havin’ fun.
I heard tell of some of these ’38 Chevy’s being “pro-touring” style. Now what in tarnation is that? They said it means it’s got a fancy new chassis underneath, makes it drive like a new car almost, but still looks old. Sounds like a lot of work to me, but I guess some folks like that kinda thing. Me? I like it more plain and simple.
And that “3+3” I heard about, well, that’s just for them crew cab trucks. You know, the ones with two rows of seats. Can fit three people in the front and three in the back. Handy if you got a big family, or a lot of farmhands to haul around. But this ’38 pickup I’m talkin’ about, it’s just got the one seat up front. Enough for me and maybe one more, if they ain’t too big!
So, there you have it. My take on the 1938 Chevy pickup truck. It’s a classic, a workhorse, a piece of history. And it’s got a whole lot of soul. If you ever get the chance to own one, don’t pass it up. You won’t regret it.
